Important vs Urgent

Do you ever find yourself doing many tasks but not feeling quite fulfilled at the end of the day?

If so, I’ve put together this brief list to help you distinguish between the two types of tasks.

Traits of important tasks:

  • It excites you
  • It often has no alarm or due date
  • It’s related to your dreams/ambitions/aspirations

Traits of urgent tasks:

  • It has a deadline
  • It’s related to others’ goals/dreams/agendas

The Principle of Priority states (a) you must know the difference between what is urgent and what is important, and (b) you must do what’s important first.

– Steven Pressfield

Are you doing mostly urgent tasks? Or important ones?

The urgent ones will get done eventually.

Don’t keep pushing back what’s important.
